if they are human hair extensions. Synthetic will melt with the bleach. If it's human, you should be good, but it may color funny as you dont have the heat from the head to aid in processing, so you'll probably have to blast it with some hair dryer heat to get it to work. good luck

Red/black hair extensions...?

i have a red and black half head. top=red, bottom= black. and i want either red or black extensions. i LOVE my hair but i got over a short haired phase (my hair had long bangs with a short back in 7th grade) and has taken a while to grow out. ive had to trim it for split ends and whatever to keep it healthy so my hair is a tad longer than shoulder length, but i want it like boob length almost for school.(obviously not going to happen before september.). every where ive seen them they are either really expensive, or you have to make them yourself, or its only like 2 in a pack for 6 bucks. i need a whole track that goes around my head that's not very expensive. ive checked Sally's beauty and torrid and salons and stuff...but I'm still looking around. if you have them whered you get yours or where should i look?

Unfortunately hair extensions aren't that cheap.


Especially if you want real hair ones (which I would highly encourage to get). If you buy synthetic ones they are usually cheaper, but they do not behave like normal hair. You cannot apply heat or else they'll melt/burn.


Real hair extensions are wonderful. But they come with a higher cost.


Go to any beauty supply store they should have some in stock and if not they can most likely advise you to somewhere where you can buy them.


They go for around $60-$200 depending on which brand you buy and the length of them as well. I once bought black ones for $60 and they were great. But you need to buy clips to sew into them as well (so they clip on) or go get them sewn into your hair. (EXPENSIVE!) The clips come in small packages that aren't too pricey and the people at the store will show you how to sew them on.
You need to go to a local hair extensions salon in your area, and go over all of your hair extension needs. They will answer your specific questions after they see your hair type. It is the best way to find the right hair extensions for your hair type, goals, and needs. They need to match the hair extensions to your hair texture. Please do not do the hair extensions yourself, or buy them online. A quality hair extensions salon has access to hair that is not found online. After you go to a local hair extensions salon, you will be well informed of your options. Do not think about using the word cheap when it comes to hair extensions. Think quality hair extensions. Cheap hair extensions will ruin your hair.

when i graduated a girl in my class borrowed her hair dressers extensions which were black...she had dark brown hair...but no matter how dark the brown is, if its up against black it'll show...especially in the sun cuz they show differnent colours in the light, but her hairdresser gave her lots of little black streaks, and it matched the extensions perfectly, so you could try that?? if your doing it at home just buy a highlighting cap and the little claw thing that you use to pull the hair out, and regular black dye, and just make sure you make the streaks small and have alot of them...it'll darken up your whole head and match the extensions but it won't be as harsh as dyin your whole head black =)

If you really do want to cut them though maybe just cut a few (but be REALLY careful) and try it out with a few longer ones and a few shorter ones cause that might make your hair look more layered.

Proceed with caution... Please! Remember that the color that you end up with when bleaching/ removing color has as much to do with the hair that you are starting with as much as what you use to alter the color.





Do a test strand on the extension hair. You are at risk of at least two things happening:


1. the extension hair not matching your own hair even after using the same product.


2. destroying the cuticle of the extension hair-- this can make it impossible to comb through after it is washed

Yes, but your hair will lighten more then the extentions, it will take several bleachings to remove black color! I am a hairdresser %26amp; colorist for years, and take it from me, it's no easy task it turning black to blonde, but you can leave them in if you like, whatever is easier for you, it's just they will take longer to lighten, hope this helps! providing they are natural real hair extentions then yes you can dye them but be very carefull as hey will go orange - best of getting blonde hair extensions or taking them to your local hairdressers and see what they say (can garentee they tell you not to do it though)
yes, you can bleach them blonde, but I would NOT suggest using a box to do so. to lift black from blonde you are probably going to have to double process, and use HEAT and lots of it!! I would suggest taking them out and trying to bleach them without frying them.. this isnt the greatest idea in my opinion

They're pretty good to me.


I have friends who use extensions and it comes out fine, just be sure that the color is as close as it can get and be sure that when you put the extensions in, your real hairstyle matches it.


I used extensions in a ponytail, which are easier to pull off. I just put my hair up, then slicked the front of my hair down and wrapped the fake hair around my real hair and no one could ever tell the difference.


I find that when you heat style your real hair that's over it though, it looks more realistic so that it gets all shiny and perfect like the extensions.

unless they are 100% human hair you can't.


if they are 100% human hair, it is possible to color them.


with them being black, a purple color probably won't show by itself, but you might want to try that first. buy a purple semi permanent color (purple doesn't come in permanent) and apply according to the directions. check visibility. if it isn't visible, you will have to lighten the extensions first, which i am not sure is even possible with extensions, even human hair extensions, as they treat them with all sorts of chemicals. i would call the manufacturer and ask before possibly ruining expensive pieces of hair.

I would say go for it because its a special occasion.





If you want to blend your natural hair to the extensions luster that your hair might lack, you can call up a salon in your area to do a color conditioner [$25ish dollars] in a blue/black or just black color that will make your hair look refreshed and darken it just a little temporarliy without damage to your hair so that it all blends together.





Also, make sure that you curl your hair for prom, it will make your extensions blend in with your existing hair cut.

Wow just get new extensions. The dye may change the texture of the weave and it won't match your real hair anymore, also even though the weave may have matched your black hair, when you dye it it could turn out a totally different color, like lighter or darker blond. It just sounds like too much trouble. Just buy new ones.

Its best if you get a professional to do it because chances are you might screw it up. Or you can buy red hair extensions which are available at Sally's Beauty Shop.
You can try but most likely if you use a box colour from the chemist, boots etc. it probably won't lift enough to go the same shade on the box.


If you know how to, the best way is to use a 30 or 40% peroxide and a tube colour, Wella tube colours from a hair and beauty wholesale have the best high shine, high colour reds.

I think your best (and possibly your only) bet is to bleach your hair. I'm sorry if you don't want to. My friend dyed her hair the other day- its really dark brown, and she wanted green highlights. So, she bleached her head, highlighted the areas she wanted highlighted, and then dyed the rest of her head dark brown. It worked really well. So, you can bleach your entire head then dye it again, and you may have to. good luck!

go to sallys beauty supply, they some in a variety of lengths, 12-18(ive always had 18) they have all the colors u want, and even by some rare chance they dont have black, grab a bottle of black dye and color them urself!

I suggest if you are planning on doing that, to either have them done at a salon, because you will have to bleach and then dye, and they will be extremely brittle and dead, therefore almost not wearable at natty, or dye your hair a off black shade to match them, either that or buy more.
